Kindergarten Van Gogh Artwork

K/1/2 have been creating a magnificent joint artwork for the Armidale Show Competition. Students were inspired by Van Gogh's painting 'Starry Night'. Students learnt about Van Gogh and the techniques he used in this artwork. Students then recreated the painting using strips of paper. If you would like to see the artwork it will be on display at the Armidale Show this weekend, otherwise I'm sure Mrs Packer and I will place it somewhere for all to see.

Active learners in Maths

Today students were active while learning their numbers in Maths. We have been working very hard on acknowledging the teen numbers and numbers in the '20s'. We played a game outside where students had to find the numbers on the ground, hold it up and say the number. Students then recalled all the numbers they had collected at the end.

The THRASS Chart

Kindergarten have been learning the THRASS chart. Here are a few videos of students reciting the chart off by heart.
AMAZING!!!!

Next week we will be holding a parent information night on Thrass, MultiLit and Numeracy. If you came to the Information night last year it will be similar but new information has been added. It would be great to have as many parents there as possible. It will especially help you understand what your child is doing at school in order to help them at home.

READING IS AMAZING!

This post is about helping your child read at home.

Some of you may have started using the PM eCollection already which is fantastic.
Today is the first day your child will be taking readers home.
Below I have sent you some 'tips' for you to follow at home when reading with your child. I have sent these to you so you are following the same routine as the classroom.
I have also added a video as an example of a guided reading session in the classroom. It is basic but shows how I would introduce a new book and how to correct students if they make a mistake. It is in two parts. I hope it helps.

Reading should be fun and enjoyable and as Dr Suess would say....

PART ONE

PART TWO

Tips for reading at home with your child:

- Introduce the book to your child. Show them the pictures and mention some of the harder words on the page
- Students need to ‘finger point’ to each word.
- Tell them the first word if struggling.
- When reading let your child look at the pictures for clues as this is an essential part of reading
- Don’t worry if your child is unsure of most words, this is the process of reading.

- Practice the books every day for fluency and accuracy

Reading in Space!

Ever wondered how to get your son to get excited about reading?
Wonder no more!
Below is a fantastic link to a website where astronauts are videoed reading books from the International Space Station.

Week - Friendships

This week we have been reading beautiful story books about friendships. This ties in nicely with our Wellbeing focus. One of the books we read was 'Friends' by Eric Carle. We recreated this book ourselves using different art equipment. We love how it is displayed for us to read in our classroom.
